Lingam or worship of cosmic energy
Lingam means “identity.” Worship of lingam represents worship of cosmic energy. Mostly, the cosmic energy is in the shape of an ellipse. If you worship any elliptical shape sacred objects, you worship cosmic energy or Cosmos. The body of the cosmic energy (i.e., Primarily Si and Va cosmic energies simply known as Sivam) is symbolically represented by a divine symbol or form known as Siva Linga, where the upper portion of the Siva Linga represents the shape of cosmic energy. The shape of an individual proton, neutron, and electron is like a bubble. The electrons rotate in an elliptical orbit, and hence the overall shape of an atom looks like an ellipsoid.
Thus, the overall shape of cosmic energy (i.e., a bit) is considered to be in the shape of an ellipsoid. Such an ellipsoid shape represents the upper portion of the Siva lingam (“Lingam” means “identity”). The base portion is a decorative stand to hold the ellipsoid top portion. Thus, the worship of the Siva Linga represents the worship of cosmic energy (i.e., atom). If you worship the Siva Linga idol, you worship fire (Si) and air (Va) cosmic energy particles. Suppose you worship a Siva Linga idol with any particular Easwar god’s name. In that case, fire and air energy particles will reflect the destructive and courageous cosmic skills of that specific Easwar god.
There are many Easwar gods. When you worship a particular Easwar god with an exact name through a Siva Linga idol, you will get that eternal human soul’s human life skills, his soul’s cosmic energy handling skills gained in his afterlife, etc. This is the difference between worshipping cosmic energy and an Easwar titled godly soul through a Siva Linga.
Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. In the Tamil language, Swayambhu means self-created. Cosmic energy is self-created, and hence it can also be named Swayambhu. The various stars, planets, galaxies, etc., are self-created in the cosmos. Thus, Swayambhu means cosmic energy, and Linga means symbol. Collectively, the term Swayambhu Linga represents the symbol of cosmic energy. Some people pronounce this Swayambhu as Sambo. One of the characteristics of cosmic energy is brightness. Jyothi means light or brightness. Thus, cosmic energy is also known as Jyothi Linga. These various terms represent cosmic energy and its various characteristics. There are five main elements on earth for every creation of life form. The Siva Linga is generally decorated with a five-headed snake on its upper portion. Each head of the five-headed snake represents one element corresponding to the earth’s five elements of Earth (Na), Water (Ma), Fire (Si), Air (Va), and Ether (Ya).
All these Na Ma Si Va Ya cosmic energies are shaped like an ellipsoid. Thus, these five Na Ma Si Va Ya cosmic energies are depicted in one familiar ellipsoid shape with five-headed snakes on the top, and it is shortened simply as Si Va Linga. Thus, the worship of the five elements’ cosmic energy in the earth is symbolically represented by a typical Siva Linga idol. The saints and rishis who wanted to gain siddhis, especially with fire element’s cosmic energy, started worshipping the cosmic energy by the Siva Linga idol, and they named it Agni Linga. Agni means fire. Similarly, the cosmic energies in each element are worshipped by the same Siva Linga idol but named as individually as follows:
Cosmic energy in the fire element is worshipped by the Siva Linga idol and named Agni Linga. The saints who obtained siddhis in fire element’s cosmic energy propagated that the Agni Dev blessed them. They thanked the fire’s cosmic energy by naming it Agni Dev. Similarly, cosmic energy in the air element is worshiped by a Sivalinga idol named Vayu Linga or Vayu Dev. Cosmic energy in the water element is honored by a Sivalinga idol named Varuna Linga or Varuna Dev. Nirudhi means stability. Earth or ground gives stability. Cosmic energy in earth elements is worshiped by a Sivalinga named Nirudhi Linga or Nirudhi Dev.
Our earth receives cosmic energy in all 360 degrees. This all-around 360-degree can be divided into eight directions (every 45 degrees). The cosmic energies from these eight directions are represented and worshipped in Siva Linga forms such as Indra Linga (cosmic energy coming from the East direction to the earth from the cosmos), Agni Linga (Fire energy coming from the Southeast direction), Yama Linga (energy from South direction). And Nirudhi Linga (energy from Southwest direction), Varuna Linga (energy from West), Vayu Linga (energy from Northwest), Kubera Linga (energy from North), and Esanya Linga (energy from Northeast).
Human life depends on the cosmic energy from Sun. Thus, the Sun’s energy (energy from the east) is life energy for all life forms on earth. It is named as Indra Linga. Cosmic energy has killing powers (examples: poison in the snake or chemicals). Thus, such destructive cosmic energies are named Yama Linga. Human life’s comforts depend on wealth and Knowledge aspects. Therefore, Kubera Linga is called cosmic energies that help increase wealth and prosperity.
Cosmic energy particles that help improve knowledge and wisdom are referred to as Esanya Linga. When you worship a Siva Linga in the name of Esanya Linga, your wisdom will increase. Linga represents the shape of cosmic energy and depending upon its existence in various elements; it is named differently, as mentioned above. Other than this, cosmic energy (i.e., atom) is present everywhere and in everything.
For every action, there will be equivalent reactions. Hence, if anybody worships cosmic energy without any idols, then the freely roaming cosmic energy particles in the surroundings/air will enhance the worshippers’ existing characters and skills due to the accumulation of more cosmic energy in their bodies and brain. Thus, such worshippers can become strong, vibrant, and active.
